Cooling Refrigerants of the Future. An air conditioner or heat pump counts on its refrigerant to cool and dehumidify the air before it’s streamed back into your home. This liquid is contained within the coils of your cooling system, but one of the most typical refrigerants that’s been in use for many years – the R-22 (Freon) is now being gradually eliminated in response to environmental concerns. In fact, this phase-out was mandated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, the production of R-22 will end all together. Introducing R-410A R-410A is EPA-recognized, chlorine-free and ozone-friendly. R-410A will cool your home without hurting the environment. Additionally, Lennox’s most efficient systems are made to use this AC refrigerant, which can help your system operate efficiently. The same Lennox systems are known for dependability, quiet operation and improved dehumidification, so you’re sure to stay comfortable. Additional Considerations At Air Temperature Control in Macon, our cooling products can work with R-410A. If you have a system that was made prior to 2010, you may want to consider replacing your cooling system now, before R-22 is scarce. Some manufacturers offer alternate refrigerants such as R-407C, R-438A and R-422, however, they may not work with an R-22 AC or heat pump and could compromise your system’s performance.
